Those of you who like a little extra something in your cars should keep an eye on the 2013 Ford Focus ST which will hit the market later this year. Don’t let the name fool you though, this is not just another Focus with some fancy badging and a cool body kit. The ST comes with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo that turns out around 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The really cool feature that just came out is the “overboost” which extends the torque curve from 3000 to 4500 RPM for up to 15 seconds. This could be the extra little Umph you need to… pass semi-trucks… among other things.
I know what you’re thinking though, “Why would they limit the output of the turbo in the first place?” Well, it’s more of a longevity thing to be honest. Having the turbo spooling at high speeds like that all the time is just hard on the mechanical parts. Giving the driver a button they can push when they really want to go fast is just cool too! So get over it and accept that if you’re flooring the pedal for more than 15 seconds you’re probably doing something illegal anyways.
Oh and don’t worry, they made sure the cooling system could handle the heat as well. Check it out online or come in to the dealership to see it in person as soon as the ST is released.
