Since 1990, the Ford Explorer has been America’s favorite SUV. Ford is now celebrating an Explorer sales milestone with more than 7 million sold in the United States since its launch.
Just in time to celebrate this achievement and the model’s 25th anniversary, Ford will introduce the 2016 Explorer at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
“Explorer changed the way the world thought about the family hauler – adventure became something you could put in your driveway,” said Craig Patterson, Ford Explorer marketing manager, in a statement. “Explorer helped the family vehicle become an emotional purchase rather than a necessity. It’s no surprise it’s been the best-selling sport utility vehicle for a quarter century.”
The Explorer was introduced at the height of the minivan boom and it’s possible it is responsible for America’s new obsessions with SUVs and crossovers. It offered the same family-hauling space as a minivan, but in a dynamic design with even more exciting capabilities.
Outside of the U.S., the Explorer is popular, too, and is sold in more than 100 markets worldwide. Just this year, Ford expects to export 56,000 Explorers to outside markets.
Come see how to make your family hauler more exciting with the Ford Explorer, available today at Marketplace Ford.
